Dendrobium Gina Perlite 'Crystal White'

Dendrobium Gina Perlite is a hybrid of Dendrobium cuthbertsonii and Dendrobium prasinum.  It has, more or less, the growth habit of Dendrobium cuthbertsonii, though the leaves do not have the pebbled surface of that species and the growths are generally a little fatter and larger.  Its flowers certainly look like the flowers of Dendrobium cuthbersonii.  The pale yellow flowers are 4 cm long and 3 cm across the face of the flower, but the clonal name is misleading since the flowers are very definitely not crystal white.

Dendrobium oreodoxa x cuthbertsonii

I purchased this hybrid several years ago and as far as I know it is still unnamed.  It is a hybrid of the micro-miniature Dendrobium cuthbertsonii from section Oxyglossum and the much larger cane-type Dendrobium oreodoxa from section Calyptrochilus, both species from New Guinea.  The hybrid seems little influenced by the Dendrobium oreodoxa parent.  Both plant and flowers look like the other parent.  The individual growths are less than 3 cm and the flowers are nearly 4 cm long.

Dendrobium Illusion

This is one of several plants I own of the hybrid of Dendrobium cuthbertsonii and Dendrobium lawesii.  The cross has reduced the size of Dendrobium lawesii, a species with long pendant canes, and has produced a plant with erect growths and flowers that are more open (those of Dendrobium lawesii are tubular).  The hybrid has canes 12 cm tall with 3 cm flowers that are produced in clusters.  The leaves have the "pebbled" appearance of the Dendrobium cuthbertsonii parent.

Dendrobium Mountain Magic

This is a Dendrobium cuthbertsonii hybrid, a cross of that species, less than 3 cm tall, and Dendrobium pseudoglomeratum, a very large plant.  The smaller parent has reduced the plant size to around 15 cm but the flowers are still very large, 4 cm long.  The plant blooms several times a year and is more tolerant of warm temperatures than its Dendrobium cuthbertsonii parent.  My plant is grown in live sphagnum in a clay pot with cool temperatures and good humidity and light.

Sophrolaeliocattleya Dream Catcher

Sophrolaeliocattleya (Slc.) Dream Catcher is a hybrid of Sc. Beaufort and Slc. Bright Angel.  It blooms in a rainbow of colors and most clones have very good form.  This is one of two examples I grow, the other is orange and has much better form than this.

Phalaenopsis Mini Mark 'Holm'

This is one of the few hybrid orchids I own and one of only three Phalaenopsis.  It is a very small plant, a hybrid of the species, Phalaenopsis philippinense and Phalaenopsis Micro Nova.  It blooms in the spring and is grown on a bathroom windowsill, since it requires warmer temperatures than my other orchids.

Sophrolaeliocattleya Circle of Life

This is one of the few hybrids I grow and one of the few Cattleyas I grow.  It's a hybrid of Laeliocattleya Culminant and the tiny red species, Sophronitis coccinea and due to the renaming of the species in its background would now be known simply as Cattleya Circle of Life.  It is a small plant as Cattleyas go, only 25 cm tall with 7-8 cm flowers, two per growth.  It blooms faithfully every spring and is one I raised from a very small seedling.

Dendrobium Flower Baby

Dendrobium Flower Baby is another hybrid of Dendrobium cuthbertsonii, this with Dendrobium victoria-reginae, a species with thin canes.  The flowers resemble that species also but the plant size has been much reduced and the canes have turned to thick upright pseudobulbs.  The plant (now) is 9 cm tall and the flowers 3 cm.  This, however, is a seedling blooming for the first time and the plant and flowers may be larger on a subsequent blooming.  It will probably have more flowers on subsequent bloomings also.

Dendrobium cuthbertsonii x glomeratum

This is another unregistered hybrid of Dendrobium cuthbertsonii, this with Dendrobium glomeratum, a large cane-type Dendrobium, also from New Guinea, as is Dendrobium cuthbertsonii.  Like most such hybrid it is much easier to grow than the parents and is more temperature tolerant.  It has huge flowers, 4 cm long on a plant that is only 10 cm tall.

Phalaenopsis Mini Mark 'Holm'

I have only a couple Phalaenopsis, all of them smaller plants that are grown on a bathroom windowsill.  This is one of them, a hybrid of Phalaenopsis philippinense and Phalaenopsis Micro Nova.  It is a small plant and the flowers, too, are small, about 3 cm.  It blooms in the fall and is easy to grow and flower.

Dendrobium Gina Perlite 'Crystal White'

This beautiful hybrid of the tiny Dendrobium cuthbertsonii and the hard-to-grow Dendrobium prasinum is seldom out of bloom and is much easier to grow and more warmth tolerant than either of the parents.  It is a slightly larger plant than Dendrobium cuthbertsonii and the leaves have only a hint of the "pebbled" surface of the leaves of that species.  Why this plant's clonal name is 'Crystal White' I do not know since the flowers are a soft yellow color.
