Orchid Plant Care - Greenhouse Tips

Many people enjoy the experience of growing orchids in their yards. However, you need to keep in mind that orchid plant care is quite different from techniques used in others. As a good alternative, you may opt for growing orchids in greenhouse rather than in yards. Greenhouse is a special structure made of glass that aids in better growth of orchids. In a greenhouse, you have all the necessary provisions for proper orchid plant care.

Make provision for adequate sunlight

The essential factor for the growth of orchid plant is sunlight. Some species of orchids are sensitive to sunlight as compared to others. For sensitive species, you need to make provisions for adequate sunlight. This provision for orchid plant care is very much possible in a greenhouse. In case of excessive sunlight, a few orchids may become yellow.

It is essential to maintain a fine balance between excessive and proper amount of sunlight when looking for orchid plant care. If your greenhouse has trees that provide adequate sunlight, you need to give them trimming sessions. Trimming the trees provides a well-shaded area, which is an ideal spot for orchid plantation. Trimming plays an important part in orchid plant care. If avoided, trees will completely block the passage of sunlight. It is wise to have deciduous trees in the greenhouse. Deciduous trees are very good for providing the required amount of shade in all seasons. Another way of providing adequate sunlight is to paint the glass surfaces from the exterior side in summer season and remove the paint in winters.
Issues of ground leveling eliminated

Greenhouses eliminate the issue of leveling the ground, as it provides a ground with steps or a sloping ground. The important factor related to greenhouse is that it should have a firm foundation for providing good orchid plant care. Greenhouses with strong foundations remove the possibility of having cracks in the glasses. Cracked glasses present dripping problems, which leads to spotted-flowers.

Choose good quality glass for the roof

Another aspect that needs to be considered in relation to orchid plant care in greenhouse is the roof. It is essential to choose good quality glasses for the roof. Good quality glasses help in providing the required amount of light to the plant and at the same time, bear the strain of intense snowstorms and winds. In case you live in a neighborhood where the climate is bad, you can even opt for double strength glasses.

Use non-toxic paints

You may paint the greenhouse from the exterior as well as from inside. However, it is best to use non-toxic paints for painting the interior of the greenhouse. Toxic paints may have adverse effect on the plants health. In other words, it may be more like a chamber filled with toxic gases. However, the aftereffects of these toxic paints are not immediate and take months or even a year to show up.

Provide good ventilation

Orchids require good ventilation for their growth. In natural environment, it is not possible to provide good ventilation. There are artificial ventilators available in the market. However, they are very expensive. Still, it is possible to provide proper ventilation with the help of resourceful techniques. You may install vents on the roof edge in a manner that they do not allow the entrance to rain, winds, insects and snow.

Prefabricated and self-built greenhouses are available in the market. These greenhouses provide the required orchid plant. Again, they require less construction time compared to conventional ones. In case you wish to shift them, you need not go for a new one, as they can be dismantled and taken to a desired location.
